There is no denying the fact that some fundamental technical changes are taking place in the filed of journalism. There was a dire need for such type of books which could reflect and cope with such changes. Fortunately Zabir Saeed’s books emerged on the scene and fulfilled these needs to a great extent. Being a scholar of history he provides in his books the true historical perspective of journalism. So we can say that he has merged history with journalism.

It is very pleasing that such a book in which the writer has very skilfully and deftly handled with the historical evolution of journalism and also presented the modern trends and techniques has come to the scene. To one the most important part of this book is that in which the writer has presented the journalistic history of the Muslims of subcontinent. Being my student I am really proud of his capabilities of head and heart.

The book concerned is an interesting one on a technical subject, the first thing towards which I was attracted was the title of the book which was new to me. The first chapter of this book entitled “Journalism: Start and Evolution” is very important in which the writer has analyzed the communication methods in Muslim history and also the journalistic techniques and correspondence skills of Mughals in the sub-continent. He has not only mentioned the renowned historical news-papers but also the great Muslim journalists like Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, Abual Kalam Azad, Muhammad Ali Johar, Zafar Ali Khan, Hameed Nizami, Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman and others. It is also note worthy that the writer has taken into account many controversial issues relating to literature, journalism and politics and highlighted the Pakistani point of view. In this context he has pinpointed those newspapers which opposed the Pakistan movement and favoured All India National Congress. In the end I have no hesitation in saying that Zabir Saeed’s mind may be called encyclopaediac due to extensive sweep of his subjects.

Zabir Saeed has become an identity and a reference name in the fields of journalism and communication. He has given the new significance to the context of these fields, writhing a number of precious and wroth reading books. In his books there is a blend of journalism, mass communication, literature, history and cultural studies and his treatment to these subjects is scholarly. He has vast and all-encompassing vision of current affairs too. These books meet the requirements of students as well as of the professionals.

I have known Muhammad Zabir Saeed Badar for many years. He is a very sincere and capable young man, full of imagination and enterprise.
Zabir’s books show his genuine literary taste and his deep insight and sense of humour and last but not the least, his versatility. These books will provide many readers with a most appropriate treasure-house from which to borrow for their literary writings.
I hope that these books will find wide circulation and lead Zabir to other similar books.
